Another difference I found between the two and something that I really enjoyed was that my mentor teacher gave each parent examples of the students' work and showed them all something they could work on with their children. She gave great examples of how well the students were doing, but made sure to give ideas of how each child could improve. I just thought that was a wonderful way to get the parents involved as well as looking out for the success of each child.
At both conferences I have attended my input was welcomed and valued at the same time. I'm really starting to feel like everything is coming together and I am growing more as a teacher each day. Monday's conference was a big eye-opener for what next year could look like for me and I am glad I had this opportunity. I will without a doubt take what I learned on Monday with me forever.
I am so glad that you picked out things that you could use forever. I always think it is important to tell parents the facts of how their child is doing from the start. I have learned that on the way but it seems like it really helps with the parent communication. It also helps out with the rapport of the parents. Some Kindergarten parents don't know what to expect from parent teacher conference so this is the way to communicate with them and show them the expectations of their child. Thanks for being a part of our successful PTC.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you were a part of our first successful PTC. I am also pleased to know that you learned things that you will take with you forever. I have learned along the way that if you stick to the facts about their child and also give positive feedback, it is usually a success. Parent communication is so important in any grade but especially in Kindergarten. Thank you so much for giving your insight on students. It was also nice that you see the same things we see in this classroom. Parents like to hear all of the positive things about their child.
